About me
Nina Larsson (Gwich’in) is the Director, Community, Culture and Innovation with the Government of the Northwest Territories and serves Indigenous communities in Denendeh as a strategist, anti-racist facilitator and organizer. The lead for Primary Health Care Reform efforts, she is dedicated to creating a space that reflects Dene culture with innovative interpretation of how culture can be expressed and contributes to excellence and wellness. Her work is informed by Gwich’in values and her upbringing in France. She is most known for fostering leadership initiatives, offering creative solutions to pressing issues and executing transformational initiatives in complex systems by centering Indigenous people’s needs and cultural safety. Notable achievements include founding Dene Nahjo - an Indigenous arts and innovation collective, leading the transition of communities from fuel oil to wood pellets, and building a team to design approaches to address longstanding systemic racism in the health and social services sector. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University with a specialization in Indigenous leadership and business and is an alumna of the Jane Glassco Northern Fellowship. Her work has been recognized with the Premier’s award for Emerging Indigenous Leaders and the ECE Minister’s Cultural Circle Award. Nina lives in Yellowknife with her husband and young son.
